About Us

Mobile Media is a groundbreaking digital media facility, acting as the outreach arm of cre8 studios. Since 1999 Mobile Media has developed an innovative working process bringing professional media artists and the latest digital equipment to 3000 young people in formal and informal education and community settings around Swindon and Wiltshire.

Over 3000 seven to twenty-five year olds have created their own video, animation and digital photography over the last 3 years.  Regular celebratory screenings at Cineworld, in schools and youth centres have brought their work to an even wider audience.

On the Road Again!

Mobile Media has re-launched in 2005 with core funding from Arts Council England supporting more work with young people in danger of social exclusion and two new directions: promoting Artists’ Development to ensure young people are creating the most dynamic and thought-provoking work they can, and more in depth evaluation of the long term benefits to participants of working with Mobile Media – all those who end up going to college, university or into the media industry after working with us!

Mobile Media Club 1 (1999 – 2002) worked with 2000 participants, and also ran the Vision ‘n’ Chips conference in 2002 for regional arts professionals, teachers and youth workers who wanted to use media skills and equipment to enhance curriculum delivery in schools and community settings.

Mobile Media Club 2 (2002-2003) adopted a specific focus on young people in danger of social exclusion, reaching over 1000 participants by working in partnership with 22 schools and organisations developing a range of artistic, technical and personal skills in participants.

Mobile Media – A Flagship Project

Through conference contributions at the national level, Mobile Media has already shared its expertise with decision makers  who wish to emulate the Mobile Media model in their region.  Through a NIACE conference in 2003, Mobile Media contributed to the debate about the use of arts practice in urban renewal and regeneration.

Mobile Media Director, Shahina Johnson represented cre8 studios at a BLOC conference in March 2004 with Mobile Media exemplifying best practice in encapsulating the use of digital arts as a tool in the delivery of both Local Authority and Arts Council priorities.
