Mobile Media’s latest project has been supported by First Light and Artpoint.
During the making of the films, Mobile Media supported young people from seven neighbouring schools who came together as first time film makers as they worked with industry professionals learning scripting, creative writing, filming and acting skills. Using the latest technology, they have produced two distinctive films bringing together the themes of pioneers and transitions. Both films have been managed by and support by Elise Hurcombe, Production manager and Marilyn Fitzgerald, Production co-ordinator.
A group of young people from Haydonleigh, Peatsmoor, Abbeymeads, Haydonwick and Catherine Wayte primary schools came together to work with Gurchetan Singh, Director and Sara-Jane Arbury, Creative Writer to make a documentary film following the story of their transition between primary school to Isambard Community School. The young people where also supported by Phil Ball, Cameraman, Barry Andrews, Musician and two kind volunteers Andy Mitchell and Simon Olney.
This documentary follows the stories of 12 teenagers as they make the transition from primary to secondary school; from girls and boys to young women and men; from different backgrounds and homes, to fellow pupils forging the identity of a new community. The film captures a unique moment in time for one group of young people in Swindon.

The Premiere of both New Beginnings films was held at Empire Cinemas, Greenbridge, Swindon on Sunday 15th July. The event was a massive success with a full house and much popcorn was had by all! Junior Saunders, our tv celebrity MC and the voice of crash test munkii, was a huge hit with everyone. He talked to the children about his own childhood and his media career so far. Each filmmaker went home with a goody bag which included a dvd of their own film. Further dvds can be obtained from mfitzgerald2@swindon.gov.uk
